Guild Wars 2 console version in ‘preparation stage’

Guild Wars 2 is marching ever closer to its 2012 launch on the PC, and it appears as if a console version is within the realm of possibility as well. NCsoft confirmed for GameSpot today that a “small development team” is at work on a console version of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game.

The confirmation follows remarks made by NCsoft during a postearnings conference call this week (and spotted by GuildWarsInsider). According to an NCsoft executive speaking via translator, the console version is “in the preparation stage.” Specific platforms and a targeted launch window were not revealed.

NCsoft noted that its primary focus remains on the PC version of Guild Wars 2.

Last month, Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet confirmed that it plans to launch the PC game this year. The company also said that a small beta is expected to begin in March, with a wider trial phase to follow in April.

Guild Wars 2 puts players into a persistent fantasy word that is driven by a range of dynamic events. When Guild Wars 2 launches later this year it will cost a fee up front but will not require a monthly paid subscription to continue playing.
