Record PC footage using your Hauppauge HD PVR
Did you ever want to record pc footage however your pc does not handle the processing needs to use software to capture gameplay footage? Here is how you can get the same result using a capture devices like the Hauppauge HD PVR.
Inventory
- A graphic card with hdtv output (not hdmi) example Nvidia GTX 260
- HD PVR by Hauppauge
- Component cables
- HDTV to component adapter (normally comes with the graphic card)
Note: I am assuming that you installed all the software that is needed by the HD PVR
Step 1: Connect the HDTV to component adapter to the graphic card. Then connect the component cables to the adapter and to the input of the HD PVR.
Step 2: Connect HD PVR to your TV by connecting component cables from the HD PVR output to the component input on your TV (this is not required especially if you do not have a TV)
Step 3: Connect HD PVR to your pc using the usb cable (supplied with HD PVR)
Step 4: Go into screen resolutions from your desktop and select ‘Duplicate Desktop on 1 and 2′ (the number 2 represents where your HD PVR is connected if you are on dual monitors follow step 4.1)
Step 4.1: If you have dual monitors you need to select your second monitor and select ‘Disconnect this display’, then select the 3rd display (or where the HD PVR is connected ) and select ‘Duplicate desktop on 1 and 3′
Step 5: Click ‘Keep Changes’ and open ‘TotalMedia Extreme’
Step 6: Uncheck ‘Enable Preview on Recording’ and ‘Hardware Acceleration’
Step 7: Start Recording prior to starting the game, the only reason I do this is because as you can notice in the preview, you end up with an infinite loop and if a sound is played it will keep repeating for ever. So to avoid any headaches I suggest start recording then start the game.
And there you have it easy steps to record gameplay footage on pc, if you have and HD PVR and low budget pc. If your pc is powerful, most probably you can do the same by using a capture card like Blackmagic Intensity Pro or you can use Fraps which is an awesome tool to record and easy to use, however it needs some pc power to record and still play with high quality fps.
Do you want to watch tv on your pc this software is for you.
